This past weekend the South Okanagan Youth Soccer Association (SOYSA) held the year end tournament for boys and girls divisions, age U11 up to U14 (grade four  to grade eight), in which teams from Summerland, Penticton, Oliver, Osoyoos, and Keremeos competed for the highly coveted SOYSA CUP. The Keremeos U11/12 girls team, who had already secured the SOYSA League Championship with their number 1/11 ranked perfect record 10-0, had enormous pressure on them to win the cup.

With a slow start to the tournament, and a dominant yet narrow victory over Oliver of 2-1, the girls did not falter, as they went on to win the next four games, out-scoring the competition 15-0, bringing the SOYSA CUP to Keremeos for the first time.

Earlier in the day, the Keremeos Girls U13/14 team, which was ranked third in their division, was in for a tough challenge as they advanced to the final to face the number one ranked Penticton girls, who had been announced as the SOYSA League Champions with their undefeated record in league play. The score was 1-0 for Keremeos nearing the half-time break, and looked undecided as Penticton continue to press for a goal. But, in the second half Keremeos dominated, and with another goal went on to win the game, bringing home the SOYSA CUP. Yes, that’s right; two SOYSA CUPS in the same day.

Three cheers for the all the girls.
