Starting Saturday, May 7, the bike valet service is returning to Penticton.
The Penticton and Area Cycling Association (PACA) will be bringing the free staffed bike parking service to the Penticton Farmers Market every Saturday until the end of August.
Operating like a coat check, the service will be available from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the grass next to City Hall near the outdoor ice-skating rink.
After launching in 2018, the program became a hit with Penticton cyclists but was put on hold in 2020 due to COVID-19.
Over the three years the service has run, it has parked over 2,600 bikes.
Up to 75 bikes at a time can fit in the valet area, which fills the same space as roughly four car parking spaces.
The location of the valet gives it direct access to the finished section of the Lake-to-Lake bike route as well.

“To the extent that we make accommodations to make cycling a safe and easy choice for people in Penticton, we will net out enormous gains on a number of fronts. Issues related to safety, noise, pollution, public health, accessibility, and the extraordinary land use cars demand, require transportation alternatives now,” said PACA’s urban cycling director Matt Hopkins. “We started in 2018 with a mission to show our city leaders that cycling in Penticton will increase if it becomes a safe and easy form of transportation.”
