Penticton Vees star commits to play college hockey in New York State

A member of the Penticton Vees will represent the Peach City in New York State next fall.

Jackson Nieuwendyk has committed to play at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. for the 2023-2024 season, the Vees announced on Thursday, July 14.

The 20-year-old forward was a key part of the team’s run to the Fred Page Cup championship in 2022, tallying 14 points in 17 playoff games.

Nieuwendyk’s father, Joe, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011 after a career in which he won three Stanley Cups and an Olympic Gold Medal.

During the Vees’ historic 2021-2022 regular season campaign, the forward posted nine goals and 13 assists in 54 games.

Penticton won the Ron Boileau Trophy last season, awarded to the team with the best regular season record in the B.C. Hockey League.

Nieuwendyk has spent just one season in the South Okanagan.
