Reader muses North American energy use and population control

Over consumption and over population are big issues, says reader

To the Editor:

We hear so much these days about earth being overpopulated and food shortages, etc. and consumption of gasoline and other products, but do we ever do anything about it?

China is the only country I know of that has laws restricting couples to only one child to be born. We read, and media tells us of countries being flooded by war torn refugees fleeing from other countries that are warring.

Have you ever considered what would happen if, for instance, China sent two hundred million of their one billion, three hundred million population over here?

We could do nothing about it and China would not even miss that many. If that were to happen, Canada would be spelled in Chinese writing and the language here would be Chinese.

If that were to happen, you would not be like today - one person driving 50 - 100 miles to work in a 300 horsepower car as we do here now.

In the early days, I remember the 1920’s when one person went to work walking the next block or so, as we lived close to our work in a very conservative home

Big homes are for show, as if anyone cares - not for necessity.

Nowadays two or three people live in a luxurious home and  drive alone in a 300 horsepower automobile and wonder why they cannot get enough pay to cover it all. Gasoline is not like water. Once used it is gone and does not come back in rain, and when I see it used to carry 7,000 pounds or so of automobile back and forth to work it makes me shudder.

Then the same people exercise in a gym to lose weight.
