Contract should be negotiated with public in mind

To the Editor:

To the Editor:

Area “G” residents - hold on to your wallets. I am sure you are aware that the R.D.O.S. is negotiating a new five year garbage collection contract, to start July 1. Area “G” will be facing the highest charge in the whole regional district.

Do you remember the three to four bag limit years ago? Then, down to two bags, and now, proposals to go to one.

Do you think we are making more garbage? No, we are not. We are dutifully recycling two thirds of our garbage for free. Still the tipping fees are going up for less garbage.

The recyclables are sold by the contractor. This is a very lucrative business.

Some of this profit should be coming back to us - the garbage suppliers. To reduce our tipping fees. Not to buy new trucks and equipment for the contractor.

In my opinion, the R.D.O.S. should re-negotiate this contract for “we” the people, not just for the contractor.
