April 4, 1949 - December 17, 2023
In loving memory ~
1949 - 2023
It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, sister, and friend, Lorna Geraldine Laas on Sunday, December 17, 2023.
Lorna was born April 4, 1949 in Creelman, SK, and she was named after her fathers brother, Lorne, who died in the first World War. At the age of four the family moved to BC's Okanagan Valley. She married and raised two children, Shawn and Susan in Barriere, BC. Later in life Lorna met Ted, they were married in the Shuswap and after some roaming about they came to reside in Keremeos, BC since 2011.
Lorna loved flowers and plants, solving puzzles, bird and people watching, and her cat, Ginger. She spent her time adventuring in life with travels to Mexico and Hawaii; camping at Niskonlith Lake, along the Washington/Oregon coast and north to Alaska; operating a scuba shop and diving with her family in the Shuswap; and the thrill of roller coasters and plane rides. She treasured walking on the beach collecting rocks and shells, and she couldn't pass by a garage sale without acquiring new treasures. She would often give away her beautiful treasures for friends and family to enjoy. We will all miss her kind, generous and fiery spirit. But most of all we will miss Lorna's laughter and giggles that filled rooms and hearts, everywhere she went.
Lorna will be remembered and sadly missed by her husband, Ted Laas, of Keremeos; her son, Shawn Warren of Ladysmith, and her daughter, Susan Warren of Parksville. She also will be lovingly remembered and missed by her sisters, Judy Ray of Kelowna, Marie Thompson of Vernon and Irene Szeponski of Stoughton, SK along with her brother, Neil Dunn of Vernon. Lorna's passing was preceded by her brothers, Danny, Elsworth, Lee and her sister, Mary.
Many extended family members and friends will all mourn her loss.
As per Lorna's wishes, no funeral will be held and cremation will take place. Lorna's remains will be lovingly spread near the Similkameen River.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Lorna's honour in April 2024 in Keremeos. Details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that we honour Lorna's love of animals and encourage you to support your local animal shelter.
