In loving memory ~
Ian Patterson, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on July 18th, 2023. He is remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife of 71 years, Irene (Fitzpatrick), his children and their spouses, Isla Patterson, Susan (Peter DeWolf), Linda (Marty McKee) and Roger Patterson, 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Earl Patterson, his parents and 4 siblings.
From the age of twelve, Ian farmed the homestead in Saskatchewan and cared for his mom, an invalid, and elderly grandmother while his older siblings and Dad were away supporting the war effort. While keeping the farm going and his family fed, he developed a deep respect for nature and the land, learned to play the fiddle and the guitar, ride broncos in rodeos, and teach boxing to youth all while going to school. He was a man of great energy; firm opinions; thoughtful kindness; a wonderful storyteller with a twinkly-eyed sense of humour; a loving father and husband.
In 1955 Ian and Irene moved to B.C. and Ian began his long and successful working life in mining which would span 4 decades and take them to remote places in B.C., Northern Ontario, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Yukon and India. Together, they circumnavigated the globe and shared their love of music and dancing. Ian is beloved by friends and family and will be joyously celebrated by all.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.hansonsfuneral.ca.
