MP Dan Albas retained his seat in the House of Commons in the Sept. 20 federal election.

Albas, the Conservatie MP for Central Okanagan-Similkameen-Nicola, received 47.6 per cent of the popular vote in the federal election.

There were four other candidates seeking to represent the riding.

“I am certainly very honoured to represent this riding again and I want to thank everyone who put their name forward. Everyone had good ideas on how to help the riding and it is not easy putting your name forward,” said Albas following the election.

Nationwide, almost 17 million Canadians voted, out of 47.4 million eligible voters.

The federal election resulted in few changes. The federal Liberals, under incumbent Justin Trudeau, won a minority with 159 seats. The Conservatives, under Erin O’Toole, won 119 seats, although the party captured more of the popular vote.

The Bloc Quebecois finished with 33 seats, the New Democratic Party won 25 seats and the Green Party finished with two seats.

At present, Albas serves as the shadow minister for the environment and climate change.

After the federal election, the House of Commons resumed on Nov. 22 and concluded for the season in December. The house will resume at the end of January.
