The new operators of Skaha Marina held an open house Saturday to do a meet and greet while showing off the improvements to the facility.

Skaha Marina manager Nikki Morris said the marina now offers standup paddleboard and kayak storage. A new mechanic shop is also available to service boaters’ needs, including anything from a small fishing boat to a 30-foot pontoon.

There are also some new dock improvements locals can look forward to, she said. The new cafe opening at the marina, Nautidog, is a tribute to both the lake and dogs.

“The reason behind that is, one, our love of dogs and, two, because years and years ago Skaha was called Dog Lake,” she said. “We thought it would be both a nod to it being on the marina here with nautical – Nautidog.”

Randy and Karen Gallagher received the highest score in the request for proposal process the city started on Jan. 22, seeking a company interested in operating the facility for two years, followed by an optional one-year extension if needed.

The marina has gone without much in the way of development for several years, after being leased to Trio Marine as part of the controversial and now cancelled deal to lease the marina and part of Skaha Lake Park for a water slide development.
