Princeton RCMP reported Monday that a gun was found at the scene of the arrest on Saturday in Deblyn Motor Home Estates, after they captured a man wanted for an Oliver shooting and freed a young woman who was travelling with the suspect.

While originally police believed the woman, 20, was kidnapped, they are now investigating the crime as a hostage-taking and charges are pending, according to Sergeant Barry Kennedy.

The woman was extremely traumatized, said Kennedy, and is now home with her family.

Afshin Maleki Ighani, who appeared in Penticton court Monday, was twice ordered deported from Canada according to Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada documents after being convicted of serious offenses.

Ighani successful appealed both deportation orders.
