Trail riding accident sends two men to hospital

Rescue effort retrieves two men after horses spook on a high trail in the Ashnola valley last week

Two men are lucky to be alive after their horses spooked during a trail ride high up the Ashnola valley on Thursday, August 16.

Police received a 911 call just before 8 p.m. on the 16. One of the horsemen was able to use his cellphone to contact emergency services after both men’s horses spooked on a narrow trail.

One of the men tumbled approximately 200 feet, suffering several broken bones and bruised lungs.The other man was also thrown from his horse, but did not leave the trail.

Rescue crews from Keremeos, Osoyoos and Penticton attended the scene, as did Keremeos RCMP and BC Ambulance personnel. Both men were hospitalized.
