Winter storm warnings are in effect for the Similkameen.

Environment Canada said hazardous winter conditions are expected on Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton via Allison Pass.

Freezing rain is possible east of Allison Pass this morning and early this afternoon as warm air overrides sub-zero surface temperatures. Environment Canada said the threat of freezing rain will diminish this afternoon.

A Pacific frontal system pushed warm air over the Similkameen region on Wednesday night causing light rain falling into the sub-zero surface layer to create patchy freezing rain.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Drivers should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating road conditions.

Road conditions are available at www.drivebc.ca.
