Short discussion on RDOS directors remuneration

Regional District Okanagan Similkameen board directors briefly discussed changes to their remuneration at the April 18 board meeting

Regional District Okanagan Similkameen board directors briefly discussed changes to their remuneration at the April 18 board meeting.

Minor wording changes were made to the bylaw that provides for remuneration and expenses to elected officials of the regional district.

A provision within the bylaw allows for an annual increase in remuneration by the change in the Consumer Price Index for the Province of British Columbia. Remuneration is also reviewed every five years to ensure the amounts paid are reasonable in comparison with other regional districts of similar size.

Municipal directors last year received $317  month in remuneration, along with a $158 per month expense allowance, while rural directors received $1,095 per month in remuneration and $548 per month in expenses.

The directors also received an additional $213 for attendance at regular board meetings, and up to $284 per day more for attendance at committee meetings taking place the same day as regular board meetings.

Other directors’ expense rates include $.48 per kilometre travel allowance and a daily meal allowance ranging from $66 to $101 per day.
