B.C. Premier John Horgan visited Princeton Tuesday - but he didn’t come to make an announcement.
He did promise, however, to look into the municipality’s efforts to secure government funding for its proposed aquatic centre, during an informal meet-and-greet session at Cowboy Coffee.
“I’m not aware of the ask, but I do know that investing in things like aquatic centres, rec centres, and community squares, these are things that bind communities together. And it’s not just about attracting doctors, nurses and professionals. It’s making sure that there is a whole community and that involves making sure that there are community amenities for people to latch onto.”

Horgan cited a recently announced $4.1-billion federal infrastructure program, and said that could possibly extend to Princeton’s project.

“That’s an investment I think that’s worth making, so we will do what we can.”
Horgan recalled the success Ocean Falls had with a pool.
“Two Olympic swimmers came out of that swimming pool in the 1970s…In a tiny town like Ocean Falls that pool was critically important.”
The premier also faced a handful of protesters and fielded questions about Site C Dam, LNG, health care, daycare, poverty reduction, forestry and prospecting.
