Penticton Indian Band gave their thanks to the firefighters working on the Skaha Creek wildfire on Sept. 2.
In a post on Facebook, the band’s leadership and emergency operations team thanked the firefighters and the public for giving the firefighters the room they needed to do their jobs safely.
“We send out our heartfelt gratitude to the firefighters and personnel and the amazing and precise air support we received from the helicopters and aircraft,” read a part of the post on behalf of Chief Greg Gabriel.

The BC Wildfire Service conducted two controlled burns on Sept. 2, and the fire has continued to be held above the established guards around the perimeter. Supporting those guards is a system of hoses and pumps transporting water from the valley bottom up the slop to the fireguards.
The fire is currently listed at 236 hectares in size. Penticton Indian Band is maintaining its evacuation alert for properties in the Skaha Hills, Riva Ridge, Holiday Hills RV Resort and Lower Village south of Shingle Creek.
