The Oliver Fire Department responded to an incident that closed a section of Highway 97 Friday night (Feb. 25) after a vehicle went off the road and took out a power pole.

A power outage in the area, located at Road 13 off of the highway, followed shortly after.

The power line came down as a result of the incident and staff from FortisBC arrived after midnight to clear the wires on the road.

Fire crews remained on scene “for a period of time” to contain the area and direct traffic.

The section of the highway closed after the department responded to the incident at 11:23 p.m.

To bypass the scene, traffic was diverted from Road 9 and Road 18.
