An inmate from Pacific Institution in Abbotsford has died of natural causes following a lengthy illness in the prison hospital, according to Correctional Service of Canada (CSC)
Frank Tamok, 73, of Olalla was serving a six-year 11-month sentence for causing death by criminal negligence, causing bodily harm by criminal negligence, and failing to stop at a motor vehicle accident.
He was involved in a crash in Penticton that killed Bradley Lentz on the Canada Day long weekend in 2011.
During Tamok’s four-day trial last year, the court heard that Tamok’s blood alcohol level was more than double the limit when he crashed into eight vehicles,
Lentz was a passenger in a GMC Jimmy that Tamok rear-ended at high speed.
The force of the crash launched the Jimmy into the air, sending it crashing down on the front end of a truck before it came to rest upside down on the shoulder of the road.
Tomak’s sentence had begun on July 19, 2012.
As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, CSC will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
