Okanagan Falls could become its own municipality

The results of the study will be discussed by the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen board

Okanagan Falls is one step closer to becoming incorporated.

The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen is set to review the results of the lengthy public engagement process at its July 21 regular meeting.

The feedback was gathered as part of the Electoral Area D Boundary and Service Configuration study, which included 19 meetings open to the public, 14 fact sheet service summaries, three incorporation insight background papers, five open house events, a panel discussion and a mail-out to all properties in the electoral area.

The RDOS board will review the results of that study, which recommend a municipality consisting of the Okanagan Falls area and the neighbourhoods known as Sun Valley, Rolling Hills, McLean Creek and certain properties just west of the community and east on Highway 97.

It would also include neighbourhoods on Eastside Road North and South, including Heritage Hills, Lakeshore Highlands, Vintage Views, Golden Hills and Skaha Estates, as well as the east portion of Vaseux Lake.

A map of the proposed boundaries is available at the RDOS regional connections website.

Once the board reviews the recommendation, they will vote to decide whether to go to the next steps on possibly incorporating the community of Okanagan Falls.

The provincial government may also require and conduct its own incorporation study before the proposal went to a public referendum.
