My name is George Bush, and I’m pleased to have my name stand in the Oct.15 election for director of Area B, Cawston, for the RDOS.
I have held this position for the past 11 years, and I hope to continue representing my community and its constituents for the next four.
I was raised in Cawston and have lived here for most of my life. My family has been farming in the Similkameen for 102 years, and I myself have continued this tradition, farming hay and other crops since I was 18.
Over the past 50 years, I have been very involved in my community, and I care deeply about the valley, the people who live here, and our future.
My children and grandchildren live in the Similkameen, and I am honoured to help safeguard our unique agricultural and family-oriented lifestyle. It is very important to me that our agricultural community continues to receive the support needed to flourish, especially our organic farmers.
Over the past 11 years I feel that my service to Cawston has been open, reliable, and honest. I am always eager to hear my neighbours’ concerns and help them find solutions. I may not always know the answers, but I will continue to go to any lengths necessary to find someone who does.
I have been very active in both the sterile insect release program, and the starling control program.
I would like the opportunity to continue this meaningful work, and become involved in future projects that benefit our community. For example, I am very excited to see the new bike path through to completion over the coming four years.
Fiscal responsibility is a big priority for me, while trying to keep tax increases to a minimum.
I believe that policy and government directives should be influenced directly by the community, rather than the top down, so that they properly reflect our needs and goals.
If re-elected, I will continue to employ my skills in dispute resolution and hands-on problem solving to keep our region thriving.
