A person will call or mail and say they are from the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA). They will say they have reassessed your income tax return and you now owe money.

The CRA never contacts people this way. The fraudulent party will ask for social insurance numbers and drivers license numbers.

Do not give out this information, as the CRA already has your S.I.N. number on file.

The fraudulent party will also try to make you go out and purchase “pay power” Visa cards. They may also say that you could be jailed for failing to comply.

“All of this is a fraud,” deWit said, “contact us if you receive one of these calls or emails.”
