Yet another new housing project may be coming to Penticton.
This time, the project would be located on Timmins Street, at the south end of the property where the Timmins Street Storage building is located.
Council voted unanimously to take the project to public consultation, after which they’ll decide on whether to approve or reject the development.
The project would create 229 units, which would be a mix of townhouse and apartment units. The apartment buildings would be two five-storey buildings, with the townhouses spread out through the rest of the property.
On July 20, the project went before council for a zoning and Official Community Plan amendment to allow the residential property on the previous industrial zoned land.
The project had previously gone to council in 2018, but concerns from the Ministry of the Environment over site contamination delayed the project until the process began for the new Official Community Plan, after which the original proposal was cancelled.
Since then, the developer has made adjustments to their plan, including getting the support of the Ministry of the Environment.
Following council’s decision, the project will head to public consultation before any further consideration.
Public consultation is planned to open July 26, after which the feedback will be gathered by the city and given to the developer.
