The Keremeos library is having a busy summer so far. Librarian Debra Holley said that overcrowding is becoming an issue.

Keremeos head Librarian Debra Holley is reporting a strong summer so far at Keremeos Library.

“We are bustling,” she said, “last Tuesday we had 450 people use the library in Keremeos.”

Debra said that internet use is strong, with 50 user cards issued in one day last week.

“We are reaching capacity, and could use more space,” Debra said, adding that she has had discussions with Mayor Manfred Bauer about the need to expand.

The Keremeos branch is one of only a few in the Okanagnan Regional Library system that can take on extra staffing hours. Currently the Keremeos branch uses an additional eight hour allotment  to provide extra staff during busy times.

The library is currently open 25 hours per week.

Holley also noted that the Summer Reading Club got off to an excellent start, with 57 children and 18 adults attending the first session.
