Fundraising silent auction at Stamp Mill Days

During Stamp Mill Day, May 21; auction runs from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

To be held at the old St. John’s Church at Webster and Daly

Six fir pews will be available for bid in a silent auction which will close at 4 p.m. sharp on May 21.  These pews have been in storage for the last several years and remain in very good condition.  They would make excellent outdoor furniture for a covered deck or wonderful dining room benches in a large home.

The pews are about 70 years old, made of solid fir and fir ply, with red leather prayer benches attached to the back of each one.  They measure 39” x 10’ x 18” (HxWxD) and came to the museum from an Anglican church in Westbank.  Yes they really are ten feet wide, for those of you with large families!

Bidding for the pews has already begun, with the starting bids ranging from $25 to $75.  It is anticipated that many people from the area will be interested in these pieces of local history, so if you want to get a chance to bid on them, be sure to show up to Stamp Mill Day in Hedley, on May 21.  You may also contact Angelique Wood, who is running the auction, directly at angelique@nethop.net with any questions you may have before the event.

It is possible to place reserve bids, so that if you are unable to attend the event you may still have a chance to obtain a pew.  Simply email the above address to place a reserve bid, remembering to include your name, email address and phone number.  Since there are six pews available your bid will be entered on the lowest running bid that it increases.  Please note only one electronic bid per person is allowed as this is a volunteered event, run by one person.

There are a number of other objects which will be made available through the silent auction process.   A few church furnishings will be available in addition to  a fancy tea set,  a school clock, and an ornate drink cart donated by members of the Hedley Museum Society. Proceeds from this sale will help to support the museum and its activities, which is kept open and run entirely through volunteer donations of time and money and only the occasional government grant.
