The Oliver Fire Department is reminding residents to keep an eye on their fires after an open burn near Sawmill Road and Road 6 got out of control.
The fire was called in around 4:50 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, and by the time it was extinguished it had grown to cover an area of roughly two hectares.
The property owners had begun an open burn and then reportedly had left the fire unattended.
The OFD is reminding residents to always be present during an open burn, and to ensure that the tools and resources necessary to handle the fire if it gets out of hand are ready and available for use.
The owners of the property were spoken to by fire officials following the burn.
