The Lower Similkameen art community continued to show a vital and increasing presence in the area with the staging of an art show on the weekend.
Dozens of residents turned out to the “Art in the Valley Faire” which took place on Saturday, May 25 upstairs in the Legion Hall.
Members of the Cawston Players theatrical group also performed a matinee of “Don’t Let Your Daughter Grow Up To Be One,” during the art show, which was presented by The South Similkameen Arts Society.
Eighteen tables were needed to display the work of local artisans who were set up to display and sell their latest efforts.
Artisans and craftsmen displayed artworks in various formats - watercolours, sketches, wood carvings, “dough art” hand painted objects, fabric art and sculptings.
“We were thrilled with the turnout in both artists and patrons,” declared Lee Simmons, a member of the SASS board.
“We will definitely be holding another similar event in the future - we had 26 individual artists and well over 50 guests come through the door.
The play was adorable - a 20 minute skit about a girl who wants to become an artist, perfectly on topic.”
The SASS currently has a membership pushing 40 and continues to look for new members. Those interested in becoming part of this dynamic and growing art presence in the Similkameen should call Julie or Lee at 250-499-5199.
