For the second day in a row, school district 78 (SD78) says all schools in Hope, Boston Bar, Agassiz, and Harrison are closed.

Due to “highway road conditions and the expectation that conditions will worsen throughout the day”, SD78 has closed all nine of its schools, and all bus services for Thursday (Jan. 18)

The schools closed were: Hope Secondary School (HSS), Coquihalla Elementary School (CES), Silver Creek Elementary School (SCES), Two Rivers Education Centre (TREC), Boston Bar Elementary-Secondary school (BBES), Agassiz Centre for Education (ACE), Agassiz Elementary-Secondary school (AESS), Harrison Hot Springs Elementary school (HHSES), and Kent Elementary School (KES).

This decision, which SD78 announced Thursday morning on their website, comes after a snowstorm hit the Hope and Agassiz area caused by, acording to Environment Canada (ECCC), “a Pacific low pressure system is bringing snow to the south coast from Jan. 16 through Jan. 17 evening.”

This is the third time this month that SD78 has had to close their schools; on Wednesday (Jan. 17) and last Thursday (Jan. 10), the district closed all schools in the Hope area.
