You never know what you’ll see around the corner at the Sagebrush Ranch’s Halloween trail in Kaleden.
There could be spiders, or even clowns and witches.
The farm on Sheep Creek Road is ready to please — or scare — people across the South Okanagan and beyond.
“It’s a family experience that will create memories,” said Lois Wager, the trail’s creative designer.
With all the trail has to offer, from Clown Town to Pirates Cove and Lollipop Lane, its combined length is only less than one kilometre and there is so much to see.
Wager — who has worked on creating the attraction with her husband, two daughters and son-in-law since August — says families won’t have any trouble spending up to one hour exploring all the trail has to offer.
Have you ever talked to a skeleton? You might after walking down the trail.
What about running into a clown riding a bicycle? There’s that, too.
But it’s all about choice on this journey, with a diverse set of games and activities on display geared toward kids and adults of all ages.
“There’s lots of props and interactive activities to take part in,” Wager said. “We tried to make it so that when you walk through, you stop, take photos and then come back to the start to see the things you may have missed.”
It doesn’t have to be scary, either.
Wager says she and her family pride themselves on making a Halloween-themed adventure that everyone can enjoy.
That’s why elementary schools, daycares and local charities from as far as Osoyoos and Kelowna have come to check out the attraction since it first opened shortly before the pandemic.
The trail was created with hundreds of hours of work, hand painted decor, lights, music and fog. The thick forested area all cleared by hard work, sweat, a machete and shovel, said Wager.
Wagner lead a similar Halloween themed effort in New Westminster for 15 years.
A beloved Halloween tradition for the family, the trail just wouldn’t be the same without lots of candy.
After all, it is Halloween.
“Who doesn’t love candy,” Wager said with a laugh.
The trail can be found at 726 Sheep Creek Road in Kaleden. It is the site of the Wagers family business, Sagebrush Pony Parties & Events.
Entry is $12 per person, and free for kids aged two and under.
The attraction will stay open through Halloween night and people can book reservations by calling 778-388-9205.
