Here’s what’s happening this weekend in Penticton

Operation Duck Drop, Valley Food Drive and more coming up

With Victoria Day weekend in the rearview mirror, the unofficial start of summer has arrived.

Here’s what’s happening on May 25 and 26:

Operation Duck Drop (May 25)

For the second year in a row, Operation Duck Drop comes to the Penticton Channel.

Rubber ducks will be dropped from Green Mountain Road and into the river on Saturday morning as event organizers help raise funds for the Dragonfly Pond Society.

A total of 2,000 rubber ducks were dropped into the water in May 2023.

Valley Food Drive (May 25)

Junior Chamber International (JCI) Penticton’s community food drive returns to the city on Saturday.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., tents will be set up outside Cherry Lane Shopping Centre, as volunteers collect non-perishable food items and monetary contributions.

Funds this year will go toward the Ooknakane Friendship Centre.

Walk for Alzheimer’s in Penticton (May 26)

The annual Walk for Alzheimer’s comes to downtown Penticton on Sunday afternoon.

The walk is an opportunity to honour and remember those who have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, event organizers said.

Registration will open at 1 p.m., at Gyro Park band shell.

The walk starts at 2 p.m.

The return of Slack Alley (May 26)

Live music, activities and a beverage garden in downtown Penticton on Sunday for the return of Slack Alley.

The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. and will take place in the alleyway within the 200 block between Main and Martin Street.

BCHL finals in Penticton (May 26)

Game 6 of the Fred Page Cup Finals between the Penticton Vees and Surrey Eagles comes to the South Okanagan Events Centre on Sunday afternoon.

This marks the Vees’ final home game of the season.

The best-of-seven series is tied 2-2.

Puck drop on Sunday is set for 5 p.m.
