It was a full house at Cannery Brewing’s Ale-Catraz, who hosted the Square Mini-Mural live auction raising over $9,000 on Wednesday night.
The lively event auctioned all 10 of the 4 feet by 4 feet murals that have been on display inside the taproom and outside in Cannery’s Backyard areas since March.
People $25 ticket included a free beer, live music by Dorian Goodwin, oysters from Buy The Sea and an eager crowd prepared to spend $$$ to secure their favourite piece.
Some pieces fetched north of $1,000 with proceeds being split between the artists and the Penticton Art Gallery to support next year’s mural auction.
This year’s auction features 10 paintings created by some of the Okanagan’s most colourful artists: Amy Schroeter, Angela Hansen, Ariane` Kamps, Elizabeth Houghton, Greta Kamp, Jessie Dunlop, Johann Wessels, Kristine Lee, Leta Heiberg, and Moozhan Ahmadzadegan.
For Cannery Brewing owner Patt Dyck, the auction is always bittersweet.
“I get so attached to seeing these beautiful paintings in the taproom. It’s hard to see them go,” said Dyck recently.
Penticton Art Gallery curator Paul Crawford acted as auctioneer for the night. He remarked about how much fun the night was.
“We really can’t thank everyone enough for joining us, and we look forward to year three,” said Crawford.
