Anti bullying day at SESS saw Vice Principal Baron Tumlinson address the students about policy when confronted by bullies. Two assemblies were held to convey the message to both elementary and senior students.

Junior and senior assemblies were used at Similkameen Elementary Secondary School to help reinforce an anti bullying message as part of Anti-bullying day on February 27.

Vice Principal Barton Tumlinson reminded students of the methods used to prevent and dampen bullying tactics at SESS, expressing dismay at having to have  recently dealt with a bullying incident at the school.

Students who are being bullied are told to be firm in expressing to the bully to stop their behaviour.

“Let them know that you don’t appreciated their behaviour,”  Tumlinson reminded the students durin the elementary assembly.

The next step is for students to tell an adult, and to repeat the steps should the bullying situation continue. Ultimately, a stubborn case of bullying should see the principal engaged, Tumlinson said.

Tumlinson told the students that it was normal to say unkind or inapropriate things from time to time, but it was important to “correct your behaviour.

You should feel good about going to school, walking down the hall in spite of who might be in it, and wearing what you want without harassment,” he advised the students.

The school’s leadership classes hosted the two anti bullying assemblies.
