Get United in Art with the Penticton & District Community Arts Council and Unity House’s upcoming online exhibition.
United in Art opens on the arts council website at www.pentictonartscouncil.com on Oct. 14, at 1 p.m.
The exhibit is the first collaboration between the PDCAC and the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Unity House Art Group.
Unity House provides social, recreational and educational programs for individuals living with a mental illness. Unity House offers a meals program, activities, mental health advocate and a volunteer program for clients to help them get more involved in the clubhouse.
The Art Group is a creative outlet for mental health clients to express themselves in a healthy and empowering way, as well as letting them socialize with their fellow members in a less-stressful environment.
The PDCAC has been providing arts and cultural programming and supports for artists and the community for 60 years.
Unity House approached the council to find a way to highlight the work being done by the Arts Group participants, to celebrate their voices, and to promote the creative process as a form of self-care that everyone in the community can use.
United in Art features paintings, pottery, birdhouses, and chimes created by those at Unity House.
Some of the works are not available for sale as they are part of the artist’s healing journey, but if you see something you would like to purchase, or to have a print made, you can contact the PDCAC with questions.
