Determined to keep spirits bright after the town’s Light Up was cancelled, the Oliver Fire Department will sound its fire hall siren at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Friday, Nov. 27 in hopes it will signal everyone to turn on their Christmas lights.
“Typically we would be celebrating Light Up this Friday. Obviously, with the current restrictions, we can’t gather in the usual way. However the OFD would like to do something a little different this year,” the Oliver Fire Department wrote on their Facebook page.
At 6:30 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 27, the fire hall will sound its fire hall siren (the air raid sounding thing). This will be the signal for everyone in town to turn on their Christmas lights. Maybe we will start a new tradition.”
Light Up and the OFD’s annual drive-thru breakfast may be cancelled this year but plans are in the works to make both happen in 2021.
The Oliver fire department is so determined to bring joy through this difficult year that they’re still doing their best to make their popular Christmas Carol truck come through neighbourhoods this holiday season.
“It looks like the big guy in the red suit has a plan in place to make sure he makes the rounds this Christmas, and who better to help make sure everyone is in the Christmas spirit than his trusty OFD elves and their bright Christmas Carol Truck,” it reads on their Facebook page.
Things will be different and not quite the same looking as they have in past years, but expect to see the firemen out in your neighbourhood’s making sure your Christmas is full of joy and cheer.
Due to recent Public Health Orders, the seventh annual Oliver Fire Department’s Drive-Thru Breakfast that was planned for Saturday had to be cancelled. The breakfast donation this year was in support of Desert Sun and the Women’s Shelter.
