After 25 years, Keremeos’ Similkameen Rec Centre is getting a new roof.
The regional district board approved a $59,000 contract with Neilson Roofing and Sheet Metal for the resurfacing job at the July 18 board meeting.
A budget of $65,000 had been set aside for the project when staff noticed the roof was in poor repair two years ago.
Rec centre manager Karl Donaghue said that he expects Neilson, who were sole bidders on the project, to begin the work soon.
“I always had, in my mind, a timetable of seeing it finished before bowling starts,” he said, adding that the project had been brought forward a year because of increasing leaks in the roof which showed up last winter.
