Over 250 pairs of socks were collected and distributed to people in need last month in Penticton, Trail and Rossland.

The South Okanagan - West Kootenay for the Green Party of Canada started partnering with local organizations in December to kick off the sock drive.

And one month later, volunteers from the party are calling the initiative a huge success.

Local organizations like La Nina Shelter and Keep off the Cold Penticton got in on the action last month to help jumpstart the campaign.

In a statement released on Jan. 12, the Green Party thanked Better Life Fitness in Rossland, Gerick Sports in Trail and Jak’s and Localmotive in Penticton for collecting the donated socks.

The community giveback, however, isn’t ending with a sock drive.

South Okanagan - West Kootenay EDA is planning to be back at it in February when they distribute toques and gloves to people in need around the community.
