The family of a Keremeos mother have started a GoFundMe to help after her recent cancer diagnosis.
Stacey Melara’s 19-year-old daughter Mercedes Hall started the fundraiser along with her brothers, aged 17, 14 and 12.
At the end of March, Melara had been taken to the hospital for severe bleeding, and after multiple transfusions and a blood test it was discovered that she had cancer.
Follow-up testing revealed it was an aggressive Stage 2 endometrial type.
“Our mother is only 35 years old and should not even have this cancer at her age, which makes it extremely dangerous for her,” reads the GoFundMe page.
Within a month, the disease has made its way through most of the muscles in Melara’s uterus.
Over the next week she will be heading down to Vancouver for surgery and treatment, and in the best case scenario will be unable to work for two months at least.
“I am reaching out to my family, friends and community for help,” reads Hall’s description. “I would like to relieve some of my mom’s financial worries and take at least one burden off her mind.”
The fundraiser page can be found by searching the GoFundMe website for the Local Keremeos Mother Battling Cancer page.
