Friends of the Rink encourage local ice sports

Donna Bartlett describes the society and its role in the Similkameen

1. Area “G” has  generously donated very significant funds to Friends of the Keremeos skating rink for the past two years.  Area “G” Director Elef Christansen has been very supportive and encouraging of our goals and our grant applications.

2. Friends of the Keremeos Skating Rink is currently holding a raffle to raise funds.  Tickets are being sold at Keremeos Variety Store, Keremeos Building Supplies and at Canadian Chopper (Keremeos Greyhound agent).

All funds go towards lowering costs and increasing accessibility for children to use the rink.  There are 13 prizes, most donated by local businesses.

What is “Friends of the Keremeos Skating Rink”?

It is a registered non-profit society in operation since July 2009.

It is registered charity since April 2010.

Our current fund raising is towards:

- subsidizing affordable skating lessons, and kids hockey

- providing free skating passes for school age kids

Our target outcome is that more children will be involved in skating, which is a locally available physical recreation that is fun, safe and healthy.

Our main fund raiser is our raffle and we also accept donations, no matter how small.  We have had financial support from Area “G” grant in aid.  We will provide an official income tax receipt for donations of $10 or more.

We have had cooperation and enthusiasm from the recreation centre manager and from the Similkameen Recreation Commission for what we are trying to do.   I would be happy to answer any questions you have about Friends of the Keremeos Skating Rink.  New members are welcome!
