An Oliver golfer can call himself one of Canada’s best.

Brian McDonald, a member of the South Okanagan’s Fairview Mountain Club, recently captured the Dick Munn Executive Professional of the Year Award.

McDonald was one of three British Columbians honoured with PGA of Canada National Awards on Jan. 24, during a ceremony in Orlando, Fla.

“It was extremely humbling,” McDonald said. “I have been in this industry for a long time, to be recognized by your peers for your work within the industry means a lot.”

Fairview Mountain Club’s general manager captured the award after “taking on duties beyond those expected of GMs,” an announcement from PGA of Canada reads.

“These include project management, interior/exterior design, financial planning, and club advocacy, creating a culture of striving for excellence through teamwork,” it continues.

Along with keeping the Fairview Mountain Club involved with local charitable events, McDonald was recognized for maintaining the club’s fiscal viability in a small community with two 18-hole courses.

“My approach over my career has been genuine and honest,” McDonald added. “I think people want to connect with like-minded, passionate people. I would guess anyone who knew me when I started in the industry would say that I am the same guy today as I was then… good or bad… but that is something I take pride in.”

McDonald says his professional goals for 2024 include unveiling Fairview’s newly installed irrigation system and improving as a golfer.

The Oliver professional was joined by Keri Moffat (Richmond’s Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club) and Kevin Stinson (Chilliwack’s Cheam Mountain Golf Course) as golfers from B.C. to receive awards.

While Moffat was named the Ben Kern Coach of the Year, Stinson captured the Mike Weir Male Player of the Year Award.

The ceremony was hosted PGA Merchandise Show in central Florida, with the aforementioned trio receiving honours on “Canada Night.”
