Mariposa Park in West Bench will be closed for the rest of April for construction work.

Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen crews will be installing a perimeter pathway, along with irrigation upgrades and accessibility improvements.

The park is now closed to the public, except for the tennis and sports courts.

New upgrades are part of the first phase of the Mariposa Park Development Plan, which was conceived in 2021 with community input.

The project had been originally planned for 2022, but was deferred due to budget constraints.

Funding for the current upgrades is coming from the Growing Community Fund.

Earlier in 2024, the RDOS removed more than 60 trees from the park as part of a pilot program to tackle invasive species.
