The Campbell Mountain Landfill will be closed from midday April 19 until the morning of April 22 to replace its scales.

The existing scales have lost half of their structural integrity, and staff told Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen directors in January that they had less than six months estimated before failing completely.

Directors authorized early budget approval for $90,000 from regional district reserves to replace the scales. The scales themselves account for $48,000, with the remainder going to the installation, calibration and engineering.

The closure of the landfill, located on Reservoir Road just outside Penticton, will begin at 2:45 p.m. on April 19. The scales are planned to be installed and the facility reopened on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 8:30 a.m.

Campbell Mountain Landfill will be inaccessible during the closure.

Commercial customers with demolition and construction waste are asked to consider using the Okanagan Falls Landfill during the closure (3751 Allendale Lake Rd., Okanagan Falls).

Once the replacement of the scales is finished Campbell Mountain Landfill will resume its regular hours.
