It’s almost time to ring in the new year and the Penticton Lakeside Resort isn’t going to let the occasion pass without making some noise.

The downtown resort is inviting the community to celebrate New Year’s 2024 near Okanagan Lake, capped off by a special fireworks show.

When the clock says midnight on Jan. 1, the annual show will begin above the lake.

Fireworks are part of a full evening of New Year’s festivities at the Lakeside Resort.

While families lace up their skates at the private outdoor skating rink at the back of the resort, there will also be holiday-themed parties at the Barking Parrot and Hooded Merganser. Skating will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, unless closed for a private rental.

Looking for a front-row seat to the fireworks show? The latter will give you exactly that, the resort said in a social media post.

The Barking Parrot, meanwhile, is expected to have a live DJ playing music until 3 a.m., the resort says.

The Lakeside has been putting on fireworks above Okanagan Lake for Canada Day and New Year’s for years.

This year, the resort is offering a New Year’s package where guests can have a front-row view to watch the show from their room.

In its social media post, the hotel says guests will also have an opportunity to extend their “staycation” with 20 per cent off their room rate.
