Penticton schools were bustling with Pink Shirt Day activities on Feb. 27, to promote anti-bullying.
The Penticton Western News visited some of these schools to see what all the students and staff were up to.
Uplands Elementary got an early start on the day, with a contest for the best designed pink shirt. The school purchased the shirts and then distributed them to the students, and it was hard to find a student without a shred of pink on them.
The Penticton Christian School celebrated Kindness Day with team and friendly activities, from board games to brainstorming words and ideas of kindness to use as ‘paper sprinkles’ on a doughtnut and ice cream cone posters, to crossing an ‘alligator-filled’ floor without leaving anyone behind.
Lee Taylor, a student there, spoke to the Western about why it’s important to him that the day is celebrated.
L’Ecole Entre-Lacs was a sea of pink, with various in-class activities. Students also gathered in the gym for a presentation on Pink Shirt Day, as well as swearing to uphold the oath of kindness.
The last school we visited was Carmi Elementary, where students were once again dressed in pink, whether it was shirts or pants. Stepping inside the front door, students had filled out a tree with hearts, each one containing a message on how the students would be kind to others.
