The Penticton Vees’ second-leading scorer, 18-year-old Danny Weight, is joining the Team West roster for next month’s Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) Prospects Game in Hamilton, Ont.

Weight, who hails from Lattingtown, N.Y., is in the seventh spot in the B.C. Hockey League (BCHL) individual scoring standings with 38 points (15 goals, 23 assists) in 37 games. His eight power-play goals are second in the league.

Weight is one of seven players from the BCHL to be selected to play for Team West.

The Vees forward, who has committed to Boston College after his time in the BCHL, is in his first season with the club and is a C-listed skater by the National Hockey League (NHL) Central Scouting division.

The 15th annual CJHL Prospects Game will be played at the Dave Andreychuk Arena Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. PST.

Organizers of the event select 40 players from eastern and western Canada in conjunction with NHL Central Scouting to form the two teams.

Meanwhile, the Vees are back in action with a pair of games this weekend ahead of the BCHL holiday break, Friday they will play host to the Powell River Kings at the South Okanagan Events Centre, coming off a 4-1 home-ice victory last Saturday over the Vernon Vipers.

The following night they are away in Cowichan Valley with a match against the Capitals and won’t return to action until New Year’s Day when they will play a matinee contest in Vernon.

The two teams have met only once this season with the Vees losing a decision in Coquitlam. They will not play again until the last week of the season in February.

Friday’s game starts at 7 p.m.
