A new soccer season in the Okanagan is that much closer, with the official start of spring just two days away.

The South Okanagan Men’s Soccer League is returning for outdoor action on April 21 and wants people from Osoyoos to Summerland to take part.

Over 80 players took part in the league’s most recent winter season, which concluded indoors on March 17.

As part of the Penticton Soccer Club, the Okanagan-based league is accepting men ages 16 and up to participate from April to July.

Games during the spring season will be played on a full field, with 11 players on each side, according to league board member Herb Alex.

In addition to playing 12 games and nine drop-in sessions, the community-based soccer league could potentially take part in an Okanagan-wide tournament later in the season.

“Players will also have the opportunity to represent Penticton in the Royal Cup in Kelowna,” Alex added.

The cost to play is $140 per player.

Registration fees cover field rentals, referees and game balls for each team.

Drop-in games, which will act as a prelude to the start of the season, begin on April 5.

Games are set to be played on Thursday evenings at 8 p.m. at Penticton’s Kings Park.
