The Similkameen Sparks senior boys basketball team were crowned Okanagan Valley Champions on Saturday night when they defeated Immaculata from Kelowna 73-60.

The game was played before a standing room only packed house at the Similkameen Secondary Gym.

The Valley Championship tournament began on Thursday afternoon with eight schools participating. Besides Similkameen and Immculata, schools from St. Ann’s (Kamloops), Barriere, Chase, Osoyoos, Lumby and Sicamous played. Our local heroes had relatively easy wins over Barriere and Chase on the Thursday and Friday before a classic matchup with Immaculata on Saturday.

The boys were down by seven at the half before battling back in the second half, led by some outstanding play from their seniors Skye Terbasket, Jaskaran Lidher, David Ruocco, Josh Vissia and next  years returners Jesse Vissia, Brandon Holley and Braydon Klippenstein.

The boys are now off to the Provincial Tournament March 6-10 at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford.
