More than 100 martial arts students were at the SASCU Recreation last Saturday for the Shuswap Open Martial Arts Tournament.

The May 27 event, hosted by Provincial Martial Arts (PMA) Association Karate, saw participants from across Western Canada enter one or more of four rings to compete in forms, team and weapon forms, point sparring and continuous sparring. The event was a qualifier for the World Martial Art Championships taking place in Las Vegas at the end of June. Twenty Shuswap PMA Karate students qualified for the event and will be accompanied by Shuswap PMA Karate instructor Holly Raczynski, who will be coaching Team Canada.
