The Penticton Vees were pushed to the brink Friday night but still walked away from Nicola Valley Memorial Arena with a 5-4 overtime victory to keep their perfect record intact.

Bradly Nadeau scored twice, including the late winner, to lift the Vees to victory on Oct. 14 against the Merritt Centennials.

Penticton has now won seven in a row to start the 2022-2023 B.C. Hockey League, and 23 overall dating back to last year’s championship playoff run.

A fast start offensively from the Vees Friday night didn’t faze the Centennials, as the home team erased two different deficits throughout the affair.

After taking a 3-2 advantage, Merritt surrendered the tying and go-ahead goals to Penticton shortly after, courtesy of markers from Nadeau and Aydar Suniev.

Down by one with less than a minute remaining in regulation, Centennials’ Jackson Krill stunned the Vees with a game-tying goal, sending the game to overtime.

In the three-on-three extra frame, Nadeau capitalized on a breakaway to secure the Penticton victory and extend his team’s BCHL-best win streak.

Despite trading goals all night long, the Vees outshot the Centennials 45-17.

Goaltender Hank Levy picked up his second win in as many starts.

Penticton is back in action Saturday night against the Vernon Vipers at Kal Tire Place. The North Okanagan squad dropped an extra-time game themselves Friday, losing to the Prince George Spruce Kings.

Puck drop is at 6 p.m.
