The Penticton Vees needed some third-period heroics to collect a victory in their final road game of the regular season.
Josh Nadeau’s marker at 10:58 of the final frame propelled the Vees to a 4-3 victory against the Wenatchee Wild on Wednesday night in B.C. Hockey League action.
The goal was Nadeau’s 38th of the season as he enters the final weekend of the play as the league’s seventh-leading scorer.
Wenatchee and Penticton traded goals for the first two periods of play on Wednesday night, ending the second period tied at three.
Before Nadeau’s game-winning goal, Bradley Nadeau, Luc Wilson and Casey McDonald found the back of the net for the Vees (42-8-0-2).
In the crease, Penticton’s Kaeden Lane collected his 28th victory of the season, making 24 saves.
The Vees were aided by a strong penalty-kill unit on Wednesday, preventing the Wild from capitalizing on six power play opportunities.
Penticton will play a pair of games at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Friday and Sunday, respectively, to wrap up their 2021-2022 regular-season schedule.
The West Kelowna Warriors and Merritt Centennials will travel to Penticton to meet up with the Vees before the league’s playoffs kick-off on March 31.
Penticton will battle with the Trail Smoke Eaters in the first round of the playoffs.
