The Penticton Vees earned their sixth victory in a row and kept their perfect season alive Monday night, April 12, at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
A two-goal effort from Jacob Quillan and a 16-save shutout from Kaeden Lane led the Vees to victory over the Cranbrook Bucks with a final score of 4-0.
A slow first period came to an end with the score knotted at zeros and just 10 shots total between the two teams — seven for the Vees and three for the Bucks.
Bucks forward Walker Gelbard was ejected from the game in the second period after an illegal check to Vees defenceman Josh Niedermayer, giving the Vees a five-minute power-play that they were unable to convert on.
Quillian eventually ended the scoreless dead-lock at the 15:25 mark of the second period, tallying the opening goal of the game and his fourth of the season.
Levi Carter was credited with the primary assist on the goal, giving him his first point in BC Hockey League.
In the third period, Tyler Ho potted his third goal of the campaign after taking advantage of a turnover in front of the Cranbrook net to push the Vees ahead by a 2-0 margin.
Luc Wilson was the next Vee to score, putting home his team-leading sixth goal of the season to put the Vees up 3-0. Carter picked up his second primary assist of the night on the goal.
Quillian would wrap up the scoring into an empty net with less than two minutes to go in the game, giving him his second of the night and fifth on the year.
Kaeden Lane turned aside each of the 16 shots he faced in the Vees net for his second shutout and fifth win of the campaign. While Bucks netminder Nathan Airey stopped 22 of the 25 shots thrown in his way in his fourth loss of the season.
The Vees will be back on the ice Wednesday, April 14 as they look the extended their perfect start to the season to seven games against the Trail Smoke Eaters.
Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. with the game broadcasted live on EZ Rock AM 800 as well as on HockeyTV.com and Shaw Spotlight beginning with the pre-game show at 6:40 p.m.
