The Penticton Vees were back in action Friday night, Sept, 9, for the first time since capturing the Fred Page Cup championship in May.
In an exhibition showdown against the Vernon Vipers, the Vees fell in a shootout 2-1 in front of 1,800 people at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
Friday night’s preseason opener marked the first of three games Penticton will play before their B.C. Hockey League title defence officially begins on Sept. 23 against the Trail Smoke Eaters.
The Vees will meet the Vipers once more in exhibition action on Sept. 16 in Vernon, before battling the Chilliwack Chiefs at the SOEC during the Vancouver Canucks’ Young Stars Classic on Sept. 17.
Aydar Suniev scored the Vees’ lone goal in regulation Friday night, while one of the team’s newest goaltenders Luca Di Pasquo turned aside 25 of 26 shots.
