Sydney (Wabby) Wabneggar and Melissa (Missy) Vesper were prominent in a Kelowna Heat victory in Washington recently.

The only Canadian team in the field, the Kelowna Heat, more than held its own at an U-14 girls fastball tournament south of the border.

Two local Kobau Koyotes were picked up by the Kelowna team, Sydney Wabnegger and Missy Vesper.

The Heat went 4-1 at a 12 team tournament last weekend in Pasco, Washington, to capture the silver medal.

Kelowna opened the tournament with at 19-4 win over the Tri-City Vipers.

Next up were the Washington Wildcats, who were whitewashed by the Heat by a score of 18-0. Missy Vesper went three for three, including a home run, while Barbour also had three hits for the winners.

In the last game of the round robin, Kelowna jumped out to an 8-0 lead, then hung on to beat the Washington Angels “A” team 11-7. Emily Elsom, Haley Martin and Vesper all perfect at the plate.

In the semi-final, the Heat routed the Washington Angels “B” team 11-0.

Sidney Wabnegger, Martin and Caron each had two hits in the win.

In the final, the Heat met their match, losing 7-4 to Absolute Blast from Seattle.

The Heat coaches are Bernie Penner, Rachel Penner, Bob Harris and Nelson Hughes.
